Meltech Confex Continuous Rotary Extrusion Line Feed Rod Cleaning System
For most tube applications the use of a rod cleaning system is recommended. Before entry to the continuous rotary extrusion process the feed rod needs to be free from any contamination that would result in defects appearing in the extruded product.
If it is necessary to remove surface contamination from the feed rod Meltech-Confex is able to provide several alternative in-line cleaning systems. The type of system proposed depends upon the material, the contamination and the final product to be extruded.
For example when extruding thin wall aluminium tubes, an aqueous cleaning medium is normally used, typically a solution of caustic soda at about 80°C, with the cleaning action accelerated by the use of ultrasonics. This is followed by several hot rinses with air knives to remove water from the surface as it is essential that the rob is both clean and dry before entering the extruder.
