Automated Take Up Coiling

Automated winding of extrusion profiles comes into its own when handling continuous multi-rod extrusions. The ability to continuously wind cable, tubes and multivoid tubes with complex profiles highlights the productivity benefits over manual handling. Using automated winding and coiling allows manufacturers to shift their production up a gear. It also provides the accurate winding control needed to cope with extrusion of thin walled and complex profiles.
Meltech-Confex automated coiling gives better utilisation of extrusion machines. It is not unusual for a company to realise a 300% improvement in throughput as they use the extrusion machine to its full capabilities, and operating continuously - no more stopping and starting the line to change reels and in so doing creating unnecessary scrap.
Meltech-Confex offers a range of take ups to suit any application. The drive and control system has been developed over many years to ensure even pitch, flat layer winding with the aim of producing product packs to meet todays high standards. Take ups include traversing drum portal types for 2 tonne capacity up to 8 tonne. Also single and twin coilers for the production of many different extrusions.
Take Up - Special Equipment
Meltech-Confex also designs and manufactures a special purpose bar chopper to cut aluminium master alloy cast bar into exact lengths. Incorporating a hydraulically activated flying shear mechanism, with bar straightening and drive rolls, this machine is designed to accept lengths of trapezoidal cast master alloy bar stock and then shear/crop them into exact lengths ranging from 35 to 2000mm, from either cold or hot formed material up to 400°C. Other lengths are also possible.
